45th Annual Alexandria Turkey Trot Will Be Held Virtually

The 45th annual Alexandria Turkey Trot is moving to a virtual format for 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It is a Thanksgiving Day tradition that draws more than 6,000 runners to the streets of Del Ray. The virtual race encourages participants to complete a 5-mile run or walk at the place of their choice any time between Nov. 21-29 and log their times online. Free Safe Rides To be Provided To Prevent Drunk Driving

Free safe rides will be offered to would-be drunk drivers throughout the Washington metropolitan area by a local nonprofit organization during the winter holidays beginning Dec. 20. The 2019 Holiday SoberRide program will be in operation nightly, 10 p.m. until 4 a.m. from Dec. 20, 2019, to Jan. 1, 2020. The program is offered by the nonprofit Washington Regional Alcohol Program (WRAP). It is intended as a way to keep local roads safe from impaired drivers during this traditionally high-risk holiday. Senior Services Of Alexandria Raised $26,000 In Oktoberfest

Senior Services of Alexandria was honored for raising more than $26,000 at the organization’s 8th annual Oktoberfest Tour and Tasting October 15 at Port City Brewing Company. SSA Executive Director Mary Lee Anderson said, “This was our biggest and best one ever.
