45th Annual Alexandria Turkey Trot Will Be Held Virtually
The 45th annual Alexandria Turkey Trot is moving to a virtual format for 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It is a Thanksgiving Day tradition that draws more than 6,000 runners to the streets of Del Ray. The virtual race encourages participants to complete a 5-mile run or walk at the place of their choice any time between Nov. 21-29 and log their times online. On Aug. 18, 1920, the 19th amendment to the United States Constitution was ratified, to guarantee women the right to vote. Plans Continue To Develop For Fall Opening Of Alexandria City Public Schools
Several Northern Virginia school systems have announced their fall plans. However, Alexandria City Public Schools is still working on developing how it intends to restart learning during the coronavirus pandemic. Gov. Ralph Northam (D-VA) announced at a press briefing that Virginia schools will begin reopening and offering in-person instruction in the fall. Player Of The Year Title Goes To T.C. Hockey Player
The Capital Scholastic Hockey League’s Player of the Year was titled to T.C. Williams High School hockey player Jason Townsend on Feb. 27. Townsend is a senior at T.C. Williams. Some teachers are starting class with meditation at George Washington Middle School. The lights are dimmed, soothing music is turned on and teachers guide the kids to breathe, settle in and focus on something positive.
