Green Spring Gardens Manor House
Located at 4603 Green Spring Road, Alexandria, Green Springs was donated to Fairfax County in 1970 by editor and publisher Michael Straight. The 31-acre property contains a restored 18th-century manor house with a gazebo, a wooded stream valley with ponds, a naturalistic native plant garden, over 20 thematic demonstration gardens (including a kitchen garden, fruit garden, wildflower garden, and rock garden), a tropical greenhouse, and a well-stocked horticultural reference library.
If you are looking for a gift for someone who loves gardening, there are two gift shops and the Garden Gate Plant Shop where you'll find gift ideas ranging from books and gardening gloves to china and wind chimes.
Green Spring Gardens is open every day from dawn to dusk while the Horticultural Center opens Monday through Saturday from 9 am to 4.30 pm and on Sunday noon to 4.30 except on Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's holidays.
